Polish developer Tate Interactive's yellow kangaroo mascot hops onto PSP with Kao Challengers, a platform game with racing sequences and multiplayer support. The single-player adventure mode spans 25 levels in six distinct worlds, from Australia to the Arctic. Players guide the bouncy marsupial from a third-person perspective as they try to rescue captured animals from evil hunter Barnaba and his corrupt cronies. Joined by a plucky parrot and a feisty firefly, Kao has an assortment of acrobatic moves to defeat his foes. Kao can punch enemies with his boxing gloves, fling boomerangs, use his tail, and more. The kangaroo can also traverse the landscape in other ways besides jumping. Players will be able to hurtle down slopes on a snowboard, fly through the air by catapult, hitch a ride with a pelican, and brave treacherous rapids inside a barrel or on a speedboat. Multiplayer support is included for up to four players in a choice of racing competitions and traditional deathmatches. The latter features nine distinct arenas and 20 weapons.

First-person shooter enthusiasts are drafted back to the European theatre of World War II, in Call of Duty: The Big Red One, the follow-up to 2004's successful Call of Duty: Finest Hour. As many real-life veterans and history buffs will recognize, the sequel's subtitle is an affectionate name for the United States Army's most decorated division, 1st Infantry. Players take the role of a soldier among its ranks. In addition to a vigorous campaign that leads them past grim landmarks of war-torn Europe and Northern Africa, players are given an opportunity for some light role-playing, as the game's story encourages them to bond with their fellow soldiers. This sense of trust may even carry over to the battlefield, where communication and cooperation are critical. As in an actual firefight, blindly storming an enemy location with guns blazing is seldom the best way to win battles in Call of Duty 2, but enhanced squad commands allow wise soldiers outmaneuver nearly any opponent, through tactics and teamwork.

EA's four-on-four, arcade-style slant on the world's most popular sport makes its PSP debut with FIFA Street 2. Players can get their kicks by challenging more than 320 professional stars on 20 national teams or by competing against an international assortment of real-life street athletes in multiple game modes. Performing juggling moves and other feats of agility will build up a team's Gamebreaker meter, resulting in an instant score or a turnover when used during a match.The main aspect of play involves challenging a series of street teams in multiple underground tournaments. Players begin by creating a team and outfitting each athlete with a choice of hairstyles, shoes and accessories. Team members will gradually build on their abilities over time, or they can be substituted with more skilled athletes from defeated opponents.The PSP version includes two-player wireless support, a series of skill-based mini-games, and five exclusive venues: Tokyo, Vancouver, Cairns, Munich and La Boca. Each locale offers interactive elements to exploit with an array of tricks.

Sony's first online game for PlayStation 2 to require a broadband connection receives a sequel with the release of SOCOM II, offering more multiplayer modes, new single-player missions, more weapons, and a number of other added features. Players will lead their four-man team of SEALs on a series of 12 single-player missions that will take them across the globe to such destinations as Albania, Brazil, Russia, and Algeria. Instead of focusing on real-world events, the developers opted instead for fictitious terrorist scenarios that would be plausible given 2003's political climate. A player's overall success in a mission helps influence the challenge level of subsequent operations, since enemy forces have a finite number of specialists working for them. Thus, eliminating a specific number of units in one particular mission means players may encounter less resistance on later missions. Completing secondary objectives in a mission can also increase a character's attributes in such skills as disarming bombs, so a player's team can grow in experience as they progress, which also influences the difficulty of subsequent missions to a degree. Enemies have been designed to respond more quickly to a player's advances, seeking cover in foliage, throwing grenades to smoke players out, or setting up gun turrets to blanket the air with bullets. Pathfinding AI has also been addressed, and by watching how online players competed against each another in the first SOCOM, the developers were able to build a teamwork model for enemy units, who will now back each other up in pairs or in groups of three. The terrorists also feature new lines of dialogue and more animation, and will be able to use tanks, helicopters, and anti-artillery guns. To fight this threat, players can outfit their team with 16 additional weapons, including shotguns, grenade launchers, rocket launchers, and anti-personnel mines.
